New Orleans & The Rain

Hey Ya'll. Here to post a few images I snapped over the weekend in NOLA.The first two are of the lush French Quarter balconies and buildings in the rain, a subject I will never tire of. The last two are of the hidden gem of a boutique hotel we stayed in and are holding our wedding ceremony in. It is one of the most romantic and beautiful places ON EARTH, no word of a lie. It's also amazingly easy on the pocket book. I will fill you in on all the details and post more images of it after the wedding.

Also, I didn't mean to be at all ironic posting pictures of New Orleans in the rain. There is a hurricane possibly heading straight towards it, projected to make landfall on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

It just happened that way. I evacuated with my family from New Orleans exactly 7 years ago and we have been heart broken ever since. Most of us have still been unable to return on a full time basis. The job and school situations there are still not ideal. The harsh reality is that a storm can and will happen any time. I can speak for myself and many others on this-How do we know the levies will hold this time? How do we know our government won't just leave those without means to leave to drown again? Memories and fears remain very much raw in all of our minds to this day. It could have been yesterday as far as any of us are concerned.

So here I am, praying that New Orleans will be spared. That we will just keep duckin the blows until we can summon the strength to stand up straight again. And of course it would be nice if our wedding celebration wouldn't get flooded out too. So light a candle for us. Say a prayer. Meditate on it. Just send some good wishes toward New Orleans out into the cosmic plane. It couldn't hurt.
Peace
Andrea

Romantic Gypsy Caravan

I don't know what it is lately with me and the romantic look...I have been lusting after everything in vintage pinks, feminine details and anything with a rose motif. This mega cute vintage camper is all that and more! Of course I personally would add some slightly more boho touches but all in all...I could totally camp in this baby.

Our New Place

On top of all my wedding planning we just moved back to Texas about a month ago. If you visit here on the regular you know that I had only just moved back home to New Orleans about 11 months ago (I'm serious about the Gypsy thing; my family actually is descended from Irish gypsies. But that's a story for another day.)  I had been all set to stay in my sweet little Creole Cottage for a good long time, but Something came up and we Had to move Again. As usual I poured my heart and soul into gardening and decorating the heck out of a place I would only stay in for a very short time. Whoever moved in after us are enjoying the fruits of my labour right now. Story of my life.
Anyway, back to my point. Here we are in Houston-where the choices of homes with any age or character to them are slim pickins. There is a tiny historical area with cute cottages but getting your hands on one of them is nearly impossible. So, the other choices were "builder special" beige box apartments or funky town homes built in the 70s. We chose the latter. At least this way there is some character to work with. It has an interesting layout, some painted wood walls, cutouts that overlook the first floor and a mini balcony off the master bedroom and an outdoor patio with banana trees.
A lot of my furniture is vintage mid-century so it fits well here and I have TONS of light in this place. So I'm channeling a little more hippie in this home (not that it's a stretch) I'm already a crazy plant lady but this place offers the perfect chance to hang plants in macrame and seashell planters all over. Once I get my place presentable I will post some pictures here. These are a few vintage images of hippie-ish home decor with plants galore so you can see the look I'm channeling.

Bohemian /Romantic/ Vintage Wedding Mood Board

Bohemian dresses, Gypsy Wedding Dresses, Bohemian Curtians, Romantic Wedding, Bohemian wedding

I hate to be one of those bloggers whose blog gets taken completely over by wedding details when they are planning their wedding...BUT...my brain is taken over completely with my wedding details- so I can't seem to blog about much else. Nor do I have the time at the moment. The date is fast approaching (September 15) and I'm scrambling to get everything done in time. Even for an intimate affair there is SO much to think about, especially for a design obsessed type such as myself. I'm doing a lot of DIY to save money but mainly to make it a one of a kind and non-traditional event ( I despise uptight, regimented, hairspray, high maintenance type weddings...yuck.) Anyhoo, I created a mood board to show ya'll what the inside of my brain looks like at the moment...These are all images I have collected from all over- so to check out the sources you can head over to my Pinterest page.

P.S. Not making any promises here- but if I pull it together enough, I shall try to photograph some of my DIY projects and post pictures and instructions here.
P.P.S. Since I have been planning my wedding, I have realized just how little choice there is out there for us bohemian girls. So I have started featuring some Vintage bohemian wedding dresses in my SHOP. Check back for more dresses, accessories and more coming soon too!

Cheers Ya'll!
